Back-button?

If you should avoid using it? Then why is still being used?

It's perfectly ok to use the back button. I think the point they were trying to make is don't force your users to use the back button by not providing links back to where they came from or to other content. Don't send your users to a page that they can't navigate away from without using the back button.
