bash: syntax error near unexpected token `'How are you today? ''

I keep getting this error towards the end of the basic python module:

treehouse:~/workspace$ input('How are you today? ')
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `'How are you today? ''

I've checked my lines and they match the video exactly.

Oops, I just realised I wasn't inside the REPL. I had not run the REPL by writing

treehouse:~/workspace$ python

first.
