You have not followed the correct syntax for function declaration. To define a function you have to use the function keyword followed by the name and parenthesis. Like that:

function myFunction() {
//code insede here
}

You should also remove your JavaScript just after the <body> tag. The <script src="script.js"></script> essentially loads that in for you.

<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
  <title>JavaScript Basics</title>
</head>
<body>
- function = getYear {
- }
<script src="script.js"></script>
</body>
</html>
