Beginner app that will solidify some of my basic swift knowledge?

I'm currently working on the IOS Development with Swift 2.0 track on Treehouse. I'm on the course now with the vending machine app. I understand the code he's showing me but I'm also confused at the same time.

What would be a good idea for a first application to help me solidify some of my understanding of protocols, enums, optionals, and other swift features?

Any ideas, what did you code first when learning IOS development? Thanks

At this point I would say keep going with the courses. I don't think that there has been enough taught to give the knowledge to make an app.

As you go through the courses the pieces will start to fall into place.

Do you think it's a reasonable expectation that by the end of these courses I will have a decent enough understanding that I can go about making an app or figuring out what frameworks I'll need to make said app?

Yes. I would say that is perfectly reasonable. I would say the hardest part is figuring out what app to build.
