Beginner projects to get started on in Github?

I'm having a hard time finding projects I can contribute to in a meaningful way on Github because a lot of the ones I've gone through are very advanced. I'm focusing on front-end and python based projects. Can some suggest projects for newbies or tips on how to find a suitable project for my beginner skill set?
