Best affordable hosting for multiple (low traffic) wordpress and static sites.

Hi,

I have several really low-traffic sites built on wordpress (think: family/friends sites), each hosted with a separate shared-hosting plan, on Bluehost.

This ends up being quite inconvenient (I have to remember multiple og-in credentials, expiration dates, etc) and I think it's probably more expensive than just using one plan from where I could host more than one site.

I would also like to start building some static site with the skills I've been learning here at Treehouse, and be able to host it on the same server.

So, which hosting would you recommend someone like me?

I needs to be easy to handle because I'm (still) definitely not tech-savvy (so no AWS, for example)

Well, first thing is, that you are going to need on how to host :) I had the same challenge! And probably its still the same challenge lol, havent uploaded a site in ages now. You might struggle anyways at first on how the database, hosting stuff work.

I use godaddy. I host it there, and i buy domains there. I have my database there and my files there. I don't know, but it's perfect. The custom service usually is good, sometimes you get people that have no clue about technology in general.. but most of the time they are good and fast.

I've used a couple of hosts and currently host on Liquid Web with a variant of a dedicated server. They do have shared hosting as well and I've never had better service from a host. Their lowest plan for shared hosting I have listed below for $19.95/month.

20 GB SSD Disk Space 400 GB Transfer Bandwidth 3 Free Domain Names

Thanks for the replies. I realized that Treehouse users have a discount at Asmallorange hosting, and read some good reviews here at the forums, so I guess I'm gonna give that one a try.

Are there any videos here at Treehouse regarding hosting set-up?

Just quick scanning I don't necessarily think they have anything separate for that. Most good web hosts will have tutorials on their site for setting things up. I also tend to go with a host with managed plans. Then even if you are stuck or there is a problem as part of your hosting fees they will try to resolve the issue for you.

One other note in general when looking at hosts. A lot will advertise very low prices and give massive bandwidth and storage for an unbelievable deal. Most of the time you will get hit with abuse of server resources before you ever get close to using that bandwidth up. As shared hosting plans generally have hundreds and sometimes thousands of sites hosted on the server. So the host has strict server resource limits so that one customer isn't slowing down everyone else. Some hosts are good at not over crowding the servers but a lot do so they can make more money. Best of luck with whatever host you go with.
