Best coding editors for Windows 8.1?

Hey friends,

I've been a Mac user for well over a Decade. I have not used Windows since '98. My MacBook Pro just crapped out on me due to the RadeonGate issue.

I just built a new PC. It has Windows 8.1 on it. Liking this OS so far.

Can you guys recommend me some good coding editors for the web development tracks here on Treehouse?

I'm used to Coda on OS X.

I am going to check out Google now, just looking forward to seeing what the community recommends.

Thanks,

Jon

Light Table is a fairly new code editor which compares well to the ones listed below.

Dustin Matlock, thanks. As usual you give great advice. That video you sent me was excellent. Looking forward to learning new things. Just gotta figure out how to monetize my newly acquired skills :p

I use Notepadd++ :)

I hear Sublime is really nice, but I think it costs money.

Well, its free , theres a licence that you can buy but i see it as free. The way noepad++ works i dont like it plus sublime look really nice and cool.

Thanks David Omar, I downloaded Brackets and Atom. Love the look of Brackets so far.

Sublime for sure. If you are doing web development with any SASS or Compass make sure to link our source maps so you can debug and edit live in Chrome. This is a big time saver. Also make sure you get CMDER. That may be more important than a text editor coming from OSX.

Garrett Rodriguez, thank you. Not sure I like the interface though. Is it possible to theme it?

Yes, for example, here is a very popular alternative: Soda. There's also, among many others, a Brackets-styled theme.

@josephkato Thanks for the themes. I will definitely check them out.
