Best Gallery type for websites.

Just wondering what sort of gallery should i use for a website? Mainly my portfolio.

I'm practically finished with the website and just have my gallery of previous works to put in but as the website is responsive and aimed for computers and mobile i was wondering whats best to use?

I was thinking of Light boxes but not sure how they function on mobile and i also don't want a user to click the link for the image to open up full screen in another link.

Any suggestions?

As far I've experienced light boxes should work find in most mobile situations(on smart phones at least). You just want to make sure it gives the experience YOU want on the platforms.

Personally I hate light boxes especially on mobile devices, design wise they don't look great and feel very clunky to me.

Do you just want to display a picture or a picture along with some text?

I just want to display about 4 pictures in 2 rows that transition to just 4 images in 1 row on mobile. But they will be small, the images themselves are practically a computer screen size as they are website designs and would like the user to be able to view them properly if they want too.
