best way to learn making svg

I've noticed a lot of people using svg to make icons such as loading icons and so on. I've never really done anything when it comes to photoshop or illustrator but I really want to look into it now.

What I want to know is the skill set needed to be good at making icons, logos, svgs. What I mean by that is. What sort of things should I be learning to get pretty good as quick as possible. So should I look at learning photoshop and illustrator first or there anything else I should be looking at.

Thanks in advance for any comments it really helps.

For making your own graphics would recommend learning Illustrator as well as some general design skills.

Once your comfortable with illustrator check out SVG Basics and maybe Animating SVG with CSS as well.

There is also a new course - Illustrator for web design due to be released this month.

Hope this helps :)

Another great tool for making SVGs is Sketch 3 by Bohemian Coding. It's really easy to use and perfect for interface and icon design. It's not as complete and feature packed as Photoshop or Illustrator, but it's a lot cheaper and purpose built for web/interface design which makes the learning curve a lot less steep.
