I want to make a blog that will morph into an all out portfolio website.
I'm going through my head of ways I want it to look. and I have looked at wordpress themes and html themes. I really want the landing page to feel like "this is a website" and not "this is a wordpress blog and over here is an article timeline yawn
Im also trying to figure out its theme and feel. Because a lot of things that will make since to me, might not translate or cross over. for example, I have a tree in my backyard that was given to me as a birthday gift. its very personal and a part of my life. I was thinking of using me sitting under the tree for the profile, the branches and leaves for the hero image, and a url name related to trees and leaves somehow. but does that make sense?? its not a website about a tree! its a blog about learning code and book reviews. so , idk
also, I have a lot of "crazy" spiritual beliefs. I beleive in magic, tarot, metaphysics and buddhism. I want to write about some of these things. but I don't want perspective employers to gain a bias about me or have any prejudice towards me. Im not a marching advocate. I'm not bothered keeping my beliefs to myself, but just code and books will get so boring. what spice and thrill will I have for days when theres nothing to write about?
the blog will morph into a portfolio site. when its all grown up, I imagine a page very similar to htmlUP, where I have generic sites coded by me, to show off my code skills.
what do y'all think and any suggestions?!?!

22,107 PointsI'm a newbie so I may not be correct on my opinions :)
I don't have too much experience on designing websites but I would suggest that you keep things simple and easy to use.
I think you can use static page in WordPress for your landing page to get the website feeling. Am I right/wrong?
Also, I would definitely write about your "crazy" spiritual beliefs because that is a very good way to make your blog section personal. I think it's important to differentiate your content from other blogs.
Start your blog today, I want to read the "crazy" stuff :) Start with a free WordPress and generate content. Then you have material for you big launch when the site is coded and developed!
I wish you great success for your project!

31,009 PointsI think marketing is way harder. Content is king. You have to create content that people want to view.

10,763 Pointsthe purpose of my blog would be to show who I am, and have a url to refer people to. I'm not concerned with how many people actually read it. only how many employers in the future will see it, when it has work on it. and to grow personally and have something to show my friends.
