bracket types throw me off, any tips?

Are there any constants about when to use what type of brackets?

I'm new but have noticed this consistently...

  1. Arrays (numbers, strings... basically any ordered list of items) = [ ]
  2. Functions (executable on a var or logging to console etc) = { }
  3. Everything else = ( )
