If not, does anyone know of any quick ways to generally ensure your site is cross browser friendly?

I can't think of any specific courses but for testing your code you could use something like Can I use which will determine which browsers require prefixes in CSS, etc.
Browser Stack allows you to view / test your website in other browsers / versions but there is a cost after the initial trial.
Installing the latest versions of the different browsers on your machine is an option but this could be difficult when different versions are required, e.g. IE8. IE9, etc.
Hope that helps in some way.
