Buddypress Activity stream

Is it possible to restrict the activity stream in buddypress so that members can only see the activity of their friends and their groups, not the entire site..?

There is a BP plugin called BP Group Hierarchy which can limit the Activity Stream to one's group. You could fork the code to make it do exactly what you want, write something up from scratch, OR check out the huge ecosystem of 300+ plugins made just for BuddyPress.
