Build a Simple Ruby on Rails Application: Adding Interactivity - Why Coffeescript?

I'm wondering: whats the reason for using jQuery to create the hover effect on the statuses?

I can achieve the same result by using ".status:hover" in CSS. Shouldn't this be the ideal way, or do are we running into problems with this solution?

I think is the theory is the only reason, you can add some css whit JQuery but at the practice is better do it whit CSS.
