Build a Simple Website - Further explanation to come?

Hey Jeremy,

Welcome to Treehouse. I'll just give you some tips on what I do, and what actually works for me. With any kind of programming or coding the only way to get good at it is to actually get your hands on the keyboard. I watch most videos a few times to make sure I'm not just copying code... but actually understanding it. The real test (let's say with "Build a Simple Website") is to think of a website that you would like to make for yourself... and see if you can make it, using all of the tools you learned at Treehouse.

hello, I had the same problem and what I did I went to the HTML ans CSS learning module (the link can be found at the bottom of the page.) after I was done with building a simple website. They get into more details about CSS there.

I code my own practice website as I watch the videos, pausing and playing as I catch up and experiment etc.

That way you actually start remembering what you typed to do what.

Just copying what's in the videos will not teach you a thing. If you don't understand, stop, go back, re-watch and then try it for yourself without the video as guidance and see what happens. If you get half right then you're half way there. :)

I'll definitely keep practicing. It just seems that there is some content which is specifically not covered in the Simple Website tutorial, and I just wondered whether I should be spending my time figuring out why I'm being asked to do X or if that will all become clear as I progress through the adventure.

And yes, Matthew, I'm just about getting it half right! Which is an improvement on before Treehouse!
