Building a real-time quiz app

Hi! I want to create a real-time quiz app. What kind of technology/package do I need? My desired app is like "Code fights, Head to Head" which is not exact quiz app though. Searching online users and pick as an opponent for the match. I've almost finished "Full Stack JavaScript track", and want to build this type of app. Maybe Socket io? Any suggestion/advice will be helpful. Thanks in advance!
