10,416 PointsBuilding a Wordpress theme plugin help
Hey everyone,
I started on Zac's Wordpress theme course today and I seem to be having one small issue. I am trying to install the advanced custom fields plugin which seems to be installing fine. But after the installation and activation the custom fields option is not showing up on the left sidebar under "settings".
Any ideas?
Here is a pic of my admin dashboard
Thank you in advance, Kris

I had the same problem, the advanced custom fields plugin that you download from WordPress is empty so you will need to download the plugin files from github and upload it to the plugin folder.

Treehouse Guest TeacherThanks JP for the update on that!
Yes, this problem came up since the video has been published. Hopefully wordpress.org will have the problem resolved soon!

3,846 PointsI don't think its a problem with wordpres.org, if you install the plugin and open up the acf.php you will see that is empty with a just a note inside
"Due to the new terms and conditions governing WordPress plugins, ACF has been relocated to github. This will allow the plugin to be accessible whilst the new version is being built."
hopefully ACF will have it back to normal soon.

Treehouse Guest TeacherAh good note, JP. My understanding was it was an incorrect link, thanks for the correction! I'm going to put a note in the video to this thread so people having a similar problem will be able to find your solution, thanks!

Yesterday I noticed that Advanced Custom Fields is back on Wordpress.org so you no longer need to download it from github. This is awesome as they have made some really big and awesome changes.
The down side of these changes is if you have a site that uses the 3.?. version and it gets upgraded the site may break. So be sure to have a look on their site at the migration docs before you upgrade.

In short I noticed that if your using ACF without any of the addons you should be safe. But if you have any add-ons you would need to download them and upload before updating. But if your site does happen to break you can easily restore it by downloading version 3.5.8 and via FTP delete the plugin and re-upload the old version.
Hope this helps
