building your own iOS app

Hey Everyone,

I was curious to see if any of my fellow tree house students who have progressed through most of the iOS track, have started to work on designing/developing your own apps? And what your experience is so far?

Thank you

I have. I've completed the crystal ball, blog reader, and messaging exercises and a currently working on an aviation app. I am totally new to ObjC and have found treehouse to be very useful.

I have had to take a 1 step forward 2 steps back approach a few times as I found the courseware to outpace my abilities. Each time I paused, consulted a classic reference book (i.e., Programming in Objective C, iPad and iPhone app development) and learned the basics for a few weeks until I felt ready to continue.

I am in the middle of creating a core data based logging app that implements a side view controller, uses core location, and parsing json data.

I am taking it one small step at a time and am content with small steps each day.

Thats awesome Chris! I hope it continues to go well. And thank you for your response, its very encouraging. I am currently working through the Obj-c basics course of the iOS track.

Hi Jordan,

I'm working as an iOS Developer in a eHealth Startup developing their product and I'm very happy about that. Threehouse has helped me A LOT. I'm still missing things but I'm learning every day.

One of the big problems is the transition from storyboards to pure programming. All tutorials on the web are with storyboards so it's a little tricky to find solutions. Anyway, Treehouse has a new pure programming app (no storyboards) using instagram API that is AWESOME.

Thank you for your response. I am looking forward to the courses where we actually start building and designing. Did you learn most of your app dev skills on tree house or did you have some formal schooling as well?

I've completed a couple of ios tracks on here and everything that i know about objective-c i learned from treehouse and youtube. i have my own app on the app store. Its called Tappy Flight.

Thats sick. Ill bee sure to check it out. Thanks for the comment.
