Can anyone explain in depth the EventEmitter that is used in the profile.js file?

I don't get the meaning of these two lines:

 EventEmitter.call(this);
 profileEmitter = this;

I search for help in Object oriented JavaScript course as suggested by the course teacher , but the course has bee updated and they are not teaching 'inheritance' anymore due to introduction of 'classes' in ES2015

Also , I don't get the role of :

util.inherits( Profile, EventEmitter );

Please help....
