Can anyone fix my code please

I try to break the loop after typing quit using the following code;

var message = ''; var student; var search;

function print(message) { var outputDiv = document.getElementById('output'); outputDiv.innerHTML = message; }

while(true){ search = prompt("please type in student's name or type 'quit' to exit the program");

if(search.toUpperCase == 'QUIT' || search === null){ break; } }

However, the loop does not break after you type 'quit'. It works fine without .toUpperCase or .toLowerCase.

PLEASE HELP. very confused now

You need to invoke toUpperCase() (notice the parens at the end of toUpperCase).

See example code below. https://www.w3schools.com/js/js_function_invocation.asp

var message = '';
var student;
var search;

function print(message) {
    var outputDiv = document.getElementById('output');
    outputDiv.innerHTML = message;
}

while(true) {
    search = prompt("please type in student's name or type 'quit' to exit the program");
    if(search.toUpperCase() == 'QUIT' || search === null) {
        break;
    }
}
