I think the first port of call is GitHub.

okay thanks Rachelle

I am assuming you are looking for Python projects. How about looking here? https://www.reddit.com/r/beginnerprojects/

I'm not sure where you live, but most cities will have at least one web development meetup group in the area. My area has meetups for Python, JavaScript, and Ruby on Rails.

It can be a great way to get out, meet, and learn from other developers in your area.

Yes thank I'll be keeping a eye out for that thanks Roy

You're welcome, Shane. I'm sure you could probably find people to work together on a project through the forums here, too. I know I've seen several people asking about getting involved in a project.

This is great advice! I didn't think of meetup! Thanks Roy.

You're welcome, Rachelle.

Learning development can be a lonely experience. It helps to meet other like-minded individuals who "get it". lol

yes don't know anyone were im from to meet with its a great idea though maybe there should be a site to go to if there is not one all ready lol

Have you tried Meetup.com?

Roy your a ledge reserved my place for a meet up in my city. thanks Roy . Legend...!

lol I don't know about the legend part, but I'm glad I could help, Shane. Hope you make some great contacts and find a few new friends. :-)

I think looking at GitHub for open source projects that you can contribute to and also reddits or other Python/whatever communities online will work too. It is true that GitHub might be a little too advanced if you are just starting out in a language, but at least you will get an idea of what the big projects are and what they might be looking for as far as contributions are concerned. I am not coding in Python (yet?) but there are such online communities for Ruby.
