This code just adds up all the digits of the value in "x" as individual numbers.

while (x > 0){         // repeat for each digit of "x"
  prod += x % 10;      // add the remainder of dividing x by 10 (the last digit) to "prod"
  x = (x-x % 10) /10;  // remove that remainder, then divide by 10
}

So for 125, 1 + 2 + 5 = 8.
