Am I allowed to post the completed app to the app store

I'm unsure if Trehouse cares but Apple does. You might violate the following of the App Store guidleines. "[If] your App looks like it was cobbled together in a few days, or you're trying to get your first practice App into the store to impress your friends, please brace yourself for rejection. We have lots of serious developers who don't want their quality Apps to be surrounded by amateur hour." "2.11 Apps that duplicate Apps already in the App Store may be rejected, particularly if there are many of them, such as fart, burp, flashlight, and Kama Sutra Apps" seeing as it's a practice app and treehouse already has it in the App Store https://appsto.re/us/Ylbb1.i

Hi,

what Cody Coats says too but, i went on google play and i typed " Crystal Ball" , guess what happened? A lot of apps , same looking were there , and google store is more crowded then apple store i think. Obeviously the first app on top one was form free house and some other people too in like top 10 but later , after that , there were the same apps , same graphic so i would say they don't mind really as long as you don't make money from it. From what i know, you can put anything and copy the code , if you don't use ti to make money or anything else like that. If you want to place it there and see how it works etc.. i think there shouldn't be any problem . I didn't try to post my app , but thats what it think. Actualy my app is sort of copied code coz i learn by watching others how they do games on yt , i prefer there than on treehouse coz its just more involving and etc.. treehouse has a bit too big gaps in iOS in my opinion . So what i did i used a bit of code from sac video and modify it so it makes game i want to make . I will try to post it in view weeks , or months , depends on how long will it take me to make last thing i want to make and i could tell you.

If you have iPhone or a product from apple, not iMac, or android, type in space cat or crystal ball or any other and you will see how many they are there. I hope this helps too.

Don't think there will be anything preventing you from asking a price for the app. If Apple/Google approve the app then there is nothing stopping you from putting it on the app stores other than your own ethics/morals. Yet, it seems unlikely that Apple would allow an app duplicate through. Seemingly Google doesn't really care. There was only 1 version of Space Cat in the App Store. So you might be able to sneak it past App Review. Just know that there are specific guidelines in the Apple's policy that would give them good reason to remove your version of the app from the App Store at any time.

Aurelian Spodarec My point was that if you can get it through App Review you can put a price on it there isn't anything stopping you other than the app review process (and your morals). I I was not making the point of its legality/correctness.

Additionally "if you put my picture [up] but don't make any money from it' does not make it legal. There are different copy rights and usage agreements. Some allow for reuse, reuse with/without modification etc. Some do not allow reuse without attribution. And some do not allow reuse at all. Yes most of the time it will end well because the internet is very large and unless you are a major source your reuse won't be found. That does not mean that it possibly inflicts copyright. Code is copyrighted, and just changing a little bit of the source does not invalidate the copyright. You still must attribute it. That is if the copyright allows for reuse and modification. Also more apps get rejected than you think. Here is a recent publication from Apple regarding App Store rejections: https://developer.apple.com/app-store/review/rejections/

jay shah - to summarize this long discussion. Can you? Yeah, probably. Should you? Nope.

I don't have an iPhone , but in the apple store , oh , there are like hundreds of crystal ball duplicated , exactly the same . In middle of them , there are really some cool apps that unfortunately are well , hidden by the spam . Because the apps are the same , and because the code is from treehosue , im sure you cant put a price for it . Its like you putting my picture on website and making profit from it , but its mine and lets say I want all profit or you have to pay for me . That's illegal , theres a video about copyright here at treehouse . If you put my picture but don't make any money from it , your ok . Most of the times it ends well sa they said.

Putting thinks in iOS store , I guess as you said its strickter because the apps need to have a quality and duplicating something could be remowed aswell. While buying a licence , or somewhere in xcode , cant remember I read about something short , But most apps , lets say neary all get throw apple to the store . But lets face it , its for purpose of learning , if apple don't mind , they may allow him . There is also a code copyright , so if I did a turorial eg on yt and he do it , but pot the same code on apple as in my tutorial but change only the graphics, that's illegal . If he change the code a bit and etc.. that's allright .

The picture was a small example . Please watch this video and you get my point http://teamtreehouse.com/library/copyright-basics later this beautiful lady will say to you how easy its actually post an app http://teamtreehouse.com/library/mobile-app-design-for-ios . I believe they know what are talking about :) Please I'm trying to get a point here but I'm too weak with what i said so watch first video and later watch a bit the second
