Can someone please explain how to use access keys?

I'm trying to convert this weather API to retrieve tweets from Twitter and it's seeming pretty complicated to me. Even after signing up for a Twitter developer account and retrieving my keys I'm not sure how to use the keys. He touches on putting the keys in a separate file and then requiring that file but Twitter gives you 4 different keys so I'm not sure how to use it. Does anyone know how to explain this to me please? Thanks!!

Wow you're not kidding, that documentation is a mess.

Lots of information, but it's really hard to find what you need.
