Can SVG's be linkable?

On the lessons you advise to use SVGs. They're great but the "Smells Like Bakin" example has the facebook/twitter buttons not linked. Is there a way to make them linkable?

I try this but o course you need to fix the css to make it nice.

What he said, but lose the span tags. They are redundant.
