Can you mix two programming languages together?

Is it possible to use two programming languages in the same application (e.g. Python and Ruby).

Ruby on Rails mixes languages together with embedded Ruby inside html & css sitting on the Rails framework.

I'm sure there are plenty of other examples with flavours of JS like Angular and Node.js.
