cannot find symbol error when adding a constant

I just added a constant to store maximum bars. It says cannot find symbol. I am not getting what's the issue here.

GoKart.java
public class GoKart {
  public final MAX_BAR = 8;
  private String mColor;

  public GoKart(String color) {
    mColor = color;
  }

  public String getColor() {
    return mColor;
  }
}

public final MAX_BAR = 8; you did not state what type of variable it is.. for example Integer or string and i think you also have to make it static so it cannot be changed " public static final int MAX_BAR = 8 ; "
