Cannot get past this exercise

How do I echo a value from an associative array?

You don't need the printf() function. The echo statements are already there for you in place.

What the challenge is asking you to do is replace the hard coded values that represent what is in the array with the values according to the array index, but if you put it in a string the PHP engine will read that as text.

For example,

Replace the lines like this.

<?php
echo "<li>print_r($contacts[0]['name']) : print_r($contacts[0]['email'])</li>\n";

To look more like this

<?php
echo "<li>".  $contacts[0]['name']) . ":" . $contacts[0]['email']) . "</li>\n";

Can you explain why the ) are necessary after ['name'] and ['email']? I don't see any opening parentheses. I've been trying this exercise like this:

echo "<li> $contacts[0]['name'] : $contacts[0]['email']</li>\n";

And I'm really confused about why it's not working.
