after the session_start() add this block of code:

for ($i = 1; $i <= 5; $i++) {
  $tmp = trim($_SESSION['word'][$i]);
  if (empty($tmp)) {
    if ($i == 1) {
      header('location:play.php');
      exit;
    } else {
      header('location:play.php?p='.$i);
      exit;
    }
  }
}

Still can't get this to work. Get this error:

When $_SESSION['word'][2] is empty, you should redirect to the play.php page with the page parameter of "p" set to 2.
