Can't start a new rails app

When I try to start a new rails app, I get this notification:

"Can't initialize a new Rails application within the directory of another, please Type 'rails' for help."

I read that I have to empty my directory because there may already be another rails app created or possibly running. I'm not sure how to do this!

Seems like you are already in the root of another rails app. If you are on Mac just type cd. From that point you can either navigate to a folder you want to be in like cd Documents and type rails new appname. If you are on Windows I hope someone who uses Windows will chime in because I don't know.
