Changing my career?

Im currently an engineer installing security products and it equipment, i have done this since i left school at 16 in 2008. I have been a hobbyist in web design since a young lad but have never had time to learn the coding side of it. I have always used software such as web page maker and adobe muse to do the code bit for me.

What i want to know is that i am well into my first track now (web-design) and will be doing all the tracks related to this, will i be able to change my future and become a Web Designer?.

I believe you can do it, there are a lot of opportunities and formal computer science education is not something necessary. In the end, your real skills will be what counts and what makes you stand out from the crowd. You just need self-discipline and patience. And determination :).

Of course you will be able to. Due to the nature of web related tech, you would need to learn a few more languages etc.

Also, depending if you wish to specialise in anything specific it will take a little longer.

You would just need to go into the industry the same way that you go into any industry.

Start as a junior and work your way up. Even if you wish to freelance, work for a company first, you learn a lot, what to do, and what not to do. Everything is a learning experience,

But yes ofc you can get a career from this.

Great thanks for the replies, I was working the last 3 weeks in the welsh festival Eisteddfod installing the fibre for the sites wifi. In our team was a Web Designer and marketer for the festival, i was amazed to see his work and couldn't help but think i could do everything he was doing... its just having the know how and confidence to get out there and try it for myself.
