Coding Bootcamp?

Hello,

I just immigrated to Canada last year and hasn't found a job. Is a coding bootcamp really good? I feel like it's a scam, since I already wasted money to a "training school" in a different field. I also have seen people with CS degrees can't find a job in Asia and North America. I know many people have talked about doing freelance, but it's not easy and pay is really low. Is coding bootcamps good as they claim? have anyone in Treehouse tried it?

I haven't taken a coding bootcamp, but I've looked into many of them. they are not accredited classes like at a college. So you are banking on the portfolio you build during the bootcamp and their job fair and career placement they offer. Many of them are very good at giving you the skills, often referred to as "full stack".

They are not a scam but finding the right one is based on a variety of factors because there are a variety of bootcamps.

During the interview process be extremely honest about what you want the outcome to be. Ask about their career placement and what companies they partner with. Nothing is gureentee but if you learn the skills,do amazing work for your portfolio and make friends with everyone, you will likely get a job(I think).

I don't know what the situation is in Canada, but in America, many alumni end up working at startups and boutique sized design studios making websites and apps. Im not sure if corperate employers are as open mined to bootcamps being a real education.

the only reason I don't go is because I don't have $12,000 (thats how much they all cost in chicago) and I've noticed all the alumni have college degrees in their backgrounds.

I agree with the above comment - I went through a coding school myself and can say that it was helpful - but do be careful when making a decision, because some schools are better than others!
