Collaboration groups.

Anyone on here interested in forming collaboration groups? Maybe connect with Treehouse members that are local to you or start doing google hangouts/skype sessions? A key to becoming awesome is interacting with similarly driven individuals. I am interested in connecting with people who are learning with a similar intent as mine. Maybe this forum topic will allow you to connect with people who are learning with a similar intent as you.

Once we get a bunch of people subscribed to this thread we can throw some project ideas around and work on them to increase our skills. Maybe we can get some Treehouse input on this.

Alright! I think six people can get something done. Maybe we can start by making a small social network site for us that is set up to make it easy to collaborate on projects.. Maybe something where we can create a project and clock in while working on it, so to speak. By clocking in it sets up easy sharing buttons that allow voice chat and/or video streaming of your computer screen. Also a project will have an outline constructed by all involved that allows people to see what needs to be done and what is currently being worked on by those clocked in.. hmmm. While clocked in your time will be tracked and lack of activity will clock you out automatically. This would keep a record, giving people credit for what they have done. Projects will be like groups on facebook. You can control the privacy settings. Some can be open and others controlled, for quality control. This might be a bit ambitious.... Thoughts? P.S. This group should be a blurt out whatever pops into your head type thing. There are no stupid or bad ideas. As long as you are kind to people your value is infinitely high, in my opinion. RESPECT!:D I think fear kills creativity and intelligence. Please, do not induce it in others. We can help each other grow through fostering a feeling of safety and acceptance. Constructive feedback, devoid of ridicule, is key. Also let's keep it voluntary and not worry about who does what so much as giving credit. Forgive the rant.;)

whoooa sounds cool! I like it! Ambitious, but I think that kind of stuff is the best way to learn anyway. What would be a good first step towards this?

Identifying the tools needed to make it. ie. Ruby On Rails, CSS, HTML, javaScript, PHP, etc. Then who has the highest level of those skills. The people that have the next highest level can assist and learn from the experience.. that is my first thought.

Great. I'm kind of inexperienced but I would love to see how far I can get with what I do know. I'm reasonably proficient with HTML/CSS... my programming knowledge is definitely my weakest, but that's what I'm focusing my efforts to learn. I'm working thru the web developer track right now and am a little past half-way on the RoR project. Done some PHP in the past.... a little JS.

Also, re: availability, I'll be able to work most evenings past 7ET.

We should create a Google collaboration group. And schedule a hangout!

That sounds like a plan. Post it here and once everyone confirms we can decide on a time and date. I was thinking the above project might integrate google tools like that. I have never done a google hang out so please set it up and post a link. Shawn, sounds good. I want to set it up so that people can work whenever they can. If schedules do not match up we can always work together through recordings.

Here is the Google Group - https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!forum/teamcollab ( we can also have a vote for the name :] )

This a little tutorial video to help with Groups - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJkrdaoq3-w

We should start posting our times of availability on the group so we can schedule our first hangout !
