command not found

Here are my code. All my input got back "command not found". Anything wrong with my code?

meeting_list = []
print("What should we bring to the meeting?")
print("Add 'DONE' while you are done.")
while True:
  new_item = ("> ")

  if new_item == 'DONE':
    break
  meeting_list.append(new_item)
print("Here is our list:")

for item in meeting_list:
    print(item)

[MOD: added ```python formatting -cf]

It appears you are missing the input command in front of the prompt:

new_item = input("> ")
