Confused about return value.

Question about function return: I got confused about how return works. the value would be returned to the function or to the var inside the function? Any difference? Help please.

The value is returned to the caller of the function. See Function Return here

function sum(a,b) { return a + b; }

let sumVal = sum(1,2);

sumVal will now be 3; The function returns the sum of 1 + 2 and the returned value gets assigned to the variable sumVal.
