Confusion in Average Salary for Front-End Developer Salary

In the new Techdegree it lists that the average for a Front-End Dev is 70,000 but in the track description that the average entry Front-End Dev makes 55,000. Is 70,000 more of the end point and if so how long does it take take to advance to an this level of pay? I'm sure this is a many layered and situational answer but any insight would be most appreciated. :D

I've heard mixed answers on this as well, and I've seen salaries according to textbook figures from different sources look like $40k ~ $65k.

I work in IT staffing and we fill web developer positions all the time. They are super high in demand and the salary is definitely higher than $70,000 once you get a couple of years under your belt. Starting out as a junior level might be in the 50's but you won't be there long.

I ran a Supply and Demand report on CareerBuilder using a tool my company has access to that gives you local and national demand and salary numbers for any given skill set or job. Below are the details for one I ran in Dallas, TX. If you want one for a specific market or skill set let me know and I'll run it for you.

I'm working on making a career change to web development so I've researched this information pretty extensively.

Front End Web Developer - March 2014 to February 2016

Dallas, TX: Active Candidates: 2,592 - Job Postings: 3,041

Dallas (average salary): $110,788 - (25%): $95,000 - (50%): $108,500 - (75%): $124,000

National (average salary): $108,680 - (25%) $88,000 - (50%): $108,000 - (75%): $125,000

I'm movin to Texas! LOL

Thank you for the info!

Can you please run one for Austin? That's where I'm located and I'm interested to see where I currently stand compared to other Front End Developers. I have 4-5 years experience total, 2 of which is at corporations. Freelance the rest of the time.

@David Ivy: What exact skills would be for Front End Development? HTML CSS JavaScript/Jquey/AJAX ? Could you look at Overland Park, Kansas for Front End Development?
