Connecting to remote in git??

I've been using git but only while watching tutorials.

I just tried to do one on my own but it didn't work. Everything leading up to connecting to my remote on github seemed to work. Here where my steps:

git init git add <filename> git commit -m"message"

Then to connect to my github I wrote:

git remote project_euler <url from github repo>

I got this back "error: Unknown subcommand: project_euler" plus somemore underneath, however I can't work out what is wrong with what I've done.
