Container width

I WAS TAKING THE COURSE ON FLEXBOX LAYOUTS AND I NOTICED THAT THE WIDTH OF THE CONTAINER WAS NOT CHANGING ACCORDING TO THE WIDTH OF THE LAYOUT ITEMS INSIDE IT,AND THERE WAS NO WIDTH ASSIGNED TO THE CONTAINER AS WELL PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS QUESTION
