Content doesn't display correctly when adding custom content

I am having trouble with the Extending WordPress Theme Functionality section of How to Build a WordPress Theme. When I add the Featured Post, Recent Post and Recent Work sections, the content distorts and doesn't display properly. I have restarted the video four different times, each to no avail. Is there an error in the video or am I just missing something? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
