4,249 PointsWell, that depends...if you want to be mobile, then the obvious choice is a laptop. As far as brand for that goes, I've tried HP, Asus and Acer. Asus is exceptionally high in build quality and is very powerful. Personally, I've got the S56CM (windows 8.1, i processor 1 tb hdd 6 gb ram, dual intel 4000 AND nvidia 635m graphics cards) and I love it. More than powerful enough to do 3d work, web development, Steam games, anything I can throw at it. It's an ultrabook but also has a DVD drive and has a chickllet style keyboard which makes typing a breeze.. I can also recommend the Microsoft ergonomic mouse, makes long sessions very easy.
Here's a link to the official page: http://www.asus.com/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/S56CM/
Hope that helps!

37,033 PointsIt all depends on what you want to do. I know that most of the developers I know personally use macs but there are some other computers that show up at our local meetups. If you want to do iPhone development though you have to go with a mac. The ones I see most often are MacBook Air 11" and Macbook Pro 15".

12,011 PointsI agree that ASUS laptops are excellent quality for the cost, relative to other brands.
I also have a Mac Mini.

However, if you don't mind sitting at a desk get an iMac or Mac Mini!
