Could we insert an element appended before an element not appended?

In the video moving to an editing state in the dom scripting by example, the input wasn't appended and he was able to insert it before the span element that has been appended?

I think I just answered another question of yours that asked this same thing in a different way.

But anyway, "insert" and "append" are both ways to add something to the DOM tree. You would only do one of these, not both.
