Design Illustrator Foundations Creating an Icon Understanding Shapes

Craters on the moon - how did it turn into compound path in a few next lessons?

Hi, I've finished the Creating an icon section. At the end of the section, when Matt teaches about Trim and Merge pathfinder option, he said they'll remove any stroke. But how come those first craters created with strokes didn't get removed when he used the Merge option? When I click on one the craters with stroke, its object type on the control panel is compound path. I've followed exactly to Matt's instruction and I don't remember when these craters got turned into compound path. I am really curious. Please help me . Thanks

Hi, I think it's because of the Outline stroke option. Still don't know why it make the Trim/Merge option unable to remove any stroke but I've tried it, and it seemed to be the reason. Hope this helps anyone who wonders the same thing :)
