Creating a gallery using images of different sizes and aspect ratios

Hello there and thank you for your time.

I'm creating a website that has a gallery page. I've created gallery pages before when all the images are the same dimensions however I'am stuck as the images i'm using are of different aspect ratios and sizes. They look very strange and distorted when I try to set a width on them and I cannot seem to figure out how to get them to look good in a column layout gallery as there is lots of white space or distortion.

I appreciate any help you may be able to give me.

In my experience, this is a pretty annoying and time-consuming problem. I would recommend looking into jQuery plugins to see if someone's already written what you're looking for.

Perhaps something like Collage Plus would work for you?

Thank you for your reply, I'll give it a go. Yes I was searching on google and that seemed to be the best solution. I just can't shake the feeling that i'm cheating a little! Thank you rydavim.
