Creating an iOS app

I don't know if anybody here has actually made an iOS application, but I am curious to know how you would create images for it. In other words, like in flappy bird, how did he, or what software did he use, to draw the bird and the pipes? If anybody had any suggestions for software to use to do this, please respond.
