CSS Basics: Inline & Internal Styles

I'm using Windows 7 (Professional or Enterprise) & Internet Explorer on a WorkSource Oregon computer.

I launched my Workspace. However, when I have my index.html file open in the Workspace & then click on the Workspace Preview eye in the upper right corner, I see nothing but a blank file document fade in & fade out. It disappears completely. The browser doesn't render the index.html file into a "Lake Tahoe" web page. Why?

Kathryn Notson Can you make a snapshot of the workspace and share it here on the forum? To do that:

  1. Go to the Workspaces page.
  2. Open the workspace.
  3. Click on the "Snapshot" icon (it's in the upper right of the workspace window -- the third icon from the right.)
  4. Click the "Take Snaphot" link.
  5. Then click on the link that appears -- this will load a "workspace snapshot"
  6. Copy the URL from the browser and paste it into a post in this forum thread. We'll be able to look a t the code and see if there's something wrong there.

I don't know if it will show the Adobe Acrobat file name at the bottom of the Workspace or not. It shows "Open," "Save," & "Cancel" options. When I click on "Open," I get 10 options & Adobe Acrobat is highlighted. I select "Internet Explorer" & then the web page opens. This web page does render in Internet Explorer 11. The other lessons in CSS Basics: External Style Sheets, & Importing Style Sheets with @import" don't render the web page in Internet Explorer. Yes, I did use Chrome yesterday & all the lessons will render the web page correctly using Chrome, but that's not the issue. I don't know why I can't render the subsequent web pages in the lessons after this one in Internet Explorer 11 when the 1st lesson can be rendered using Internet Explorer 11. I'm using the same WorkSource Oregon computer (Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise, Internet Explorer 11) that I used to complete my Web Design course & Internet Explorer 11 worked fine. I don't know why my Workspace pops up as an Adobe Acrobat document to begin with.

Workspace worked great in the Web Design course when it was on the right of the video. I didn't have any problems with it during that course.

I'm aware that Team Treehouse uses MacIntosh OX 10 & Safari or Chrome browsers. However, WorkSource Oregon has Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise (it used to be Windows 7 Professional) & Internet Explorer 11 & the Multnomah County Library uses Microsoft Windows 7 Enterprise & Mozilla Firefox. Code Oregon students who don't own their own computers use these computers.

Maybe your browser doesn't support the files... Have you tried using Chrome or other browsers?

I could switch to a Chrome browser only. (WorkSource Oregon & Multnomah County Libraries have only Microsoft Windows 7 PCs, not MacIntosh OSX.)

I've successfully used Internet Explorer 11 in the Web Design course. That was when Workspace was already on the page on the right of the video for each lesson & it worked great then. It should work unless there's something in the "launching" process that doesn't all it to function correctly. I'm using the same computer I used to do the Web Design course.

Have you tried opening a workspace by going directly to the Workspaces? Maybe your computer had an update of some sort?

I don't believe the WorkSource computer I've been using has been updated. I launched the Workspace via a button under the lesson video that said "Launch Workspace" on the Team Treehouse web site. Launching the Workspace was fine. It's just when I click on the "Preview" eye in the upper right corner of my open index.html file in the Workspace that I get the blank file fade in & fade out & the browser doesn't render the HTML into the web page. It has something to do with that rather than the Windows 7 (Professional or Enterprise) OS or IE 11 on the computer I've been using. Workspace functioned fine during the Web Design course. Perhaps this is a problem for tech support.

I just noticed if I go to the Workspace area under the played video below the line & launch my Workspace, I get an Adobe Acrobat file line at the bottom of my Workspace. I open it & a box with different options to open the file appears. If I switch the highlight from Adobe Acrobat to Internet Explorer, then click the OK button, I see my index.html in my Workspace rendered in IE 11 as my web page on the desktop (C: drive). Now I just have to figure out how to transfer my browser rendered web page to my e-drive & I will be able to save my homework.
