how can i stop my print.css from over writing my style.css(original css)?

That's what media types are used for in the link tag. There are several choices, the 2 most common are screen and print

<link rel="stylesheet" href="screen.css" media="screen"> <link rel="stylesheet" href="print.css" media="print">
