cube roots

Hi. I was messing around with the mavericks scientific calculator and got some strange answers. Integers 5 to 10 when cubed and then cube-rooted return a floating point number just below the true answer. For example the cube root of 27 returns 3, but the cube root of 125 returns 4.99999etc. Interestingly the cube root of 1331 returns 11. Not sure if this pattern repeats.

Any ideas?
