Dashes in the JSON example

When looking at the JSON example, what are the dashes ( - ) for at the beginning of a lot of the objects?

Thank you.

dashes are not used in JSON data. I think you are speaking about the dashes that some JSON formaters create to show developers when an object has children that you can collaps to show/hide.
