Data Analysis Data Validation

Data Validation displayed differently

Hi there, My data validation menu on google sheets is displayed differently and it doesn't include all the functions from the video. It doesn't let me attach a screenshot here, but the menu is on the right-hand side and no pop-up is being shown after clicking on "data validation". Does anyone know why? Thanks, Gabriel

Hi Gabriel. I agree, it's a little confusing because Google Sheets has been updated since the video. You can still validate the data in the same way as the video, but the wording is a little different.

  1. For the Quarter 3 entries: Instead of selecting "Number" and then selecting the range, you can go directly to selecting "Is between" and it will automatically assume you mean Number by the data in the cells.
  2. For the missing pop-up, did you mean when you were supposed to select "Appearance: Show validation help text" and then enter an incorrect value for Arizona in July in cell J4? If so, that has been changed to "Show help text for a selected cell." If you click on that, you should get the pop-up when you enter a value outside the range.
  3. For the New Cell Suggestion List: "List from a range" is now "Dropdown from a range."

Hope this helps!

Thanks :)
