Database Foundations, Server Administration

Hello, I have been able to get the correct version of MySQL Workbench installed on my desktop, so it looks like the version in the video, but I do not know how to get the server running. In my MySQL Workbench window, there is nothing in the boxes under SQL Development and Served Administration. What do I do?

I have MySQL server installed on my machine, but when I try to initiate a New Server Instance on MySQL Workbench (under Server Administration), I get "could not connect to MySQL server, etc" a few screens in (under "Testing the Database Connection").
